The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.

Explanation on the KenBel project:

1. The ideas of the project:

  • Build a hotel as a joint-venture between European and Kenyan executors.
  • The hotel could be situated not far from a local small community, not in the middle of the tourist centers but at the other hand easy reachable from the airport.
  • Not too much luxury but essential comfort and reliability.
  • An integrated project.
  • Visitors (individual and group companies) become citizens of the village and after leaving the country stay in contact and keep on supporting the development of the local community.
  • Thanks to the program the hotel will become the catalyst of the expansion and the development of the village because many joint-ventures will be started up.
  • The hotel will also be a center of training for different activities.

2. Interested companies can identify themselves in a different perspective.

The project is a capacity and community building project that brings together different cultures in an African situation.

Every European small or big company will invest in different activities.

5. The base of the joint-venture will be:

  • A group of investors starts a partnership in Kenya and gives 50 % minus 1 share to the Kenyan partners.
  • KENBEL Company buys land and develops.
  • From the beginning everything is done with the Kenyans; architecture, construction, product development, publicity, animation, etc…
  • European trainers will be involved.
  • There will be training in Europe but also in Kenya and other parts in Africa
  • There will be an exchange of participants and executors.
  • The profit of the project will be used to develop more community activities and conditions.

THE YOUTH THE RESSOURCE OF KENYA

The population age bracket of 30 years and below constitutes about 75% of the Kenyan population (the youth). This segment forms the highest source of human resource.

However, their status has been placed on the periphery and not accorded the due recognition. They have been excluded from designing and implementing programmes and policies that affect them and the whole country in general. Many youth with the will and the skill don’t have a chance in the present job market.

Despite all the challenges that that they face, young people are creative and always come up with innovative modes of survival thus the vibrancy seen in the informal sector i.e. upsurge of micro-enterprises and the information and communication technology world (ICT).

Youth are society’s most valuable resource, the recipients of its heritage and the very content of its future. Their development demands special attention to the reduction of unemployment, specifically among youth, and this will be best achieved by the empowerment of youth that they may become full partners in the crafting of their destiny.   We want to change the development paradigm to a youth-led development where they will be the main actors in the design of the policies, programs and partnerships that will shape their future.

To that end, focus should be on the quality of education that youth receives, and to the manner in which they transit from school to the labor force.  We recognize that these years of transition are fraught with dangers and filled with opportunities.  The kind of choices they make in those years are critical to ensure that they adopt healthy lifestyles, and acquire the self-confidence to take on the challenges of the new world in which they will both compete and contribute.

Youth should learn the skills required for continuous life-long learning, and acquired the social, interpersonal and entrepreneurial skills that will stand them in good stead as they design their own sustainable livelihoods, be they employed or self-employed, be it in existing enterprises or in new ventures.

This will not only require the creation of new market opportunities, new social innovations and new models of operation, it will also require that the content of the work that youth will do will fulfill their aspirations and help push their societies onto the path of sustainability. This outlook must permeate the manner in which we evaluate our policies, our programs and the enabling environment created by existing and pending legislation.
