B&W contributed to the development of this Teacher Training Resource Kit
Many people contributed to the development of this Teacher Training Resource Kit. Enormous thanks go to the INEE members who volunteered their time to be part of the Teacher Training Task Team and develop this resource, including: S.B. Ekanayake Befare, Karangwa Evarista, Stan Goetschalckx, Andrew Jilani, Jackie Kirk, Robert Krech, Jane Lowicki, Peter Merckx, Robert Mizzi, Barry Sesnan and Fran Vavrus. This resource would not have been possible without the contributions of many INEE members who generously gave their time to respond to the teacher training survey and share their teacher training resources. The indispensable contributions of interns and volunteer researchers kept this process going, especially: Regina Reza, Janet Shriberg, Nancy Green, Nicole Angotti and Gillian Kabatereine. Special thanks go to Beverly Roberts and Ellen Van Kalmthout of INEE's Secretariat and Steering Group for providing ongoing support in this effort. Ultimately, this kit would not be in your hands today without the extra effort, time and dedication of two members of the Teacher Training Task Team, Jackie Kirk and Robert Mizzi, and two IRC team members, Sarah Smith and Severine Chevrel.
As the convening institution of the Teacher Training Task Team, it has been a pleasure to work with everyone involved in the process. We hope that the result is a practical and useful tool for school administrators, education program managers, and others working in emergency, chronic crisis, and early reconstruction contexts throughout the world. Teacher Training Task Team
In response to this need, INEE formed the
Teacher Training Task Team (TTTT),
which is convened by the International Rescue Committee (IRe) and comprised of a group of practitioners and academics working in education in emergencies, chronic crises, and early reconstruction settings. The TTTT's primary task was to assess the types of teacher training materials that would be most useful for practitioners working in the field and to collect and compile good examples of such resources into a kit.
The TTTT began this process by disseminating a survey to INEE members asking them to identify areas in which they most need additional resources, and share materials that they find especially useful in their work. Based on the survey responses, the TTTT identified the following five key areas:
1. Pedagogy
- Classroom management
- Learner-centered teaching and learning
- Making teaching aids with locally available resources
- Adapting teaching and learning materials to different contexts
2. Girls' Education
3. Psychosocial Support and Children with Special Needs
- Support for traumatized and distressed children
- HIV/AIDS
- Peace Education
4. Capacity Building for Administrators
5. Community Participation
The TTTT reviewed over 100 resources submitted by INEE members responding to the survey and selected the most relevant and practical resources for each of the key areas identified. The result is this Teacher Training Resource Kit.
